MP4 files in windows vista

Question:I have a new HP Pavilion with window vista. I can´t open MP4 files in windows vista . I don´t know wich aplication I have to use.

Answer 1:

Hi Pablo J P,
Thanks for using the forums.
WMP should download the codec automatically, but since it looks like something is interfering with this please go to the following website and start by reading the "How do I find a codec?".
This will help you get the codec you need.

Answer 2:I went to the website recommended below by the Microsoft tech support guy.  It redirected to me to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/downloads/wmplugins .  That website tells you that it is retired and no longer offers support.  Oh, well....

Google is offering a viewer called Picasa 3.  It's free and it will support .mp4 files without having to download and install potentially dangerous plugins from unknown sources.

It would be very nice if Microsoft offered solutions that were this easy.  That's not a criticism so much as a request from a loyal Microsoft CUSTOMER that would like to be able to use the products purchased.

Maybe one of the following free media players would be worth a try:

Media Player Classic
http://www.filehippo.com/download_media_player_classic/
(just unzip it and run it...no installation required)

VLC Media Player
