Windows Update “Error Code 80244019”

Question:

Can anyone please help me why this error; Windows Update Error Code 80244019 appears when I update my computer?  I believe it is due to Windows Defender update not responding. I am using Windows Vista. Please can someone help me to resolve this issue?

Answer 1:

I would check to see if you have a Trojan or virus on your system.  There have seen several cases with that error and it was resolved by removing the Trojan and rebooting your system. Once the Trojan was removed, they were able to install from Windows Update again. It seems possible that your Windows installation has been deliberately damaged by a Trojan so as to prevent you updating your system or removing the Trojan. Your first priority must be to cleanse your PC of all malware.

1) Make sure the definitions for Windows Defender is up to date.

Windows Defender is a free program that helps you stay productive by protecting your computer against pop-ups, slow performance and security threats caused by spyware and other potentially unwanted software.

You can download Defender from the following web site.

2) You can scan your computer now online and clean it for free with Live OneCare with the safety scanner that is available at the following web site. 3) Use the Malware Removal Tool to check for Malware. This tool checks your computer for infection by specific, prevalent malicious software (including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom) and helps to remove the infection if it is found. Microsoft will release an updated version of this tool on the second Tuesday of each month. You can download the Malware Removal tool from the following web site.
