Question:I've just installed SP2 (onto a rebuilt laptop that has little else as yet, apart from the SP1 install). The SP2 install says it finished successfully. But when I tried to reboot, the system is stuck with a message about logging off. It has been stuck like this for many minutes. I'm guessing I'll have to just power off unless it eventually comes back.
Is there anything that I need to fix. or is this just a Windows quirk?
Thanks
Mike
Answer 1:
Hello Mike,
Thanks for posting. Did the SP2 install successfully complete the first reboot where it finalizes the SP install? If the machine is hung up trying to complete the Service Pack install turning off the power can cause severe problems with your OS. If it is stopped there and does not continue and you have no choice but to cycle the power be prepared to have to perform an "In Place Upgrade" repair installation of Vista. If that initial reboot completed successfully and now your system is hanging on shutdown we can assist you with troubleshooting that. Let us know the answers to my questions and the status of your system in your reply and we can go from there.
Thanks,
Jack

Answer 2:I've install SP2. Everything seems fine. But when I shutdown, the PC never turns off...just the blue circle and the words "Shutting down". I have to power off. Upon restart, I get the safe mode option.
Answer 3:The install completed without issue to my recollection.
