Music playing automatically

Question:I'm running Vista and when I insert a compilation audio cd it starts playing automatically; however, Task Manager doesn't show any program running. I can't manually change tracks and I can't stop the cd without removing it.  What program is running?  If I look at the tracks in Explorer and double-click one, Windows media player starts running, but the previous track that was playing continues so that both are playing at the same time.

Answer 1:

Hi g_man_50,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Windows Vista Community site.

One possible reason could be that the option "play CDs and DVDs automatically after you insert them into the computer" is selected.

You have to make settings changes in the auto play feature and that should take care of the issue.

I would also recommend you to check the default program to play when you insert CD or DVDs.

Change which programs Windows uses by default

Hope the above information helps.

Answer 2:Thank you. I was able to find out what was going on. A program called VLC was playing the music. It was confusing because it was not showing up on the Task Bar nor on the Applications tab of Task Manager.  However it was showing up on the Processes tab of Task Manager.  Your answer helped me find the defaults that I needed to change.

Thanks again,

Loris
