Vista Inspiron 1520 (Dell) - Error 80040154 reports following attempted installation of SP 1

Question：

SYMPTOMS

Time Frame - about 15 mins for reporting Error details: Code 80040154

After downloading this update, and then failing to install this update-" Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET

 Framework 3.5 Family Update" (KB951847) x86 brings up the following information :-

 

Update type: Important

 

Computer Shuts down

 

Restarts

 

Screen Message :- "Updates were not configured correctly".

 

Screen Message :- "Reverting changes" - Do not turn off your computer."
"
The computer restarts with the same report at least three times in succession.

You may try the steps below:
1. Download the standalone package of Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7&displaylang=en
2.Place the computer in Clean boot mode.
3. Install it manually.

Note: Disable the security software installed on the computer, if any.
