Internet stopped working after automatic windows update

Question:Last night, 3am, Windows Updates installed the latest updates. Husband was playing Warcraft (online) at the time. When he got up this morning, he could no longer access any internet (with his game, or with IE or Firefox)

We did a system restore, we powercycled the modem and router, we disabled the firewall.

Running Windows Vista 64 bit. Other computer on the network is having no issues being online. Have spoken to D-Link (manufacturer of router) and Linksys (manufacturer of wireless card) and everything is working on their end. Spoke to Gateway (it's a Gateway computer), and they told us to reformat.

Is there any way around this? We really would rather not. Please please help... thanks :)

Answer 1:Okay after another check... Windows Live Messenger works...

Answer 2:I fixed the problem!! While browsing other topics with similar problems, I came across one that suggested it was the Norton 360 we had recently uninstalled. I downloaded the uninstall tool (from the working computer and put it on a USB stick) and ran it on the other computer and it worked!
