I cannot play any CDs or DVDs. I cannot run software installation.

Question:I have checked the device (as suggested in another post) and this is shown to be working.  The restored all defaults and the box is checked to automatically run discs when inserted.  I am using an Acer laptop (recently purchased) and Windows Vista.

Answer 2:Thank you John.  I've followed everything and it seems that it is the hardware.  Now I just have to go through the trial of having the drive replaced (15 days???!!!).

Many thanks
