Answer 1:

Hi Bigcat777,

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Answers Forums.

Have any changes been made to your computer prior to the issue starting?

You can perform system restore  to put your computer back the way it was before this problem started:

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

Click Start, type system restore in the Start Search box, and then click System Restore in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.

In the System Restore dialog box, click Choose a different restore point, and then click next.

In the list of restore points, click a restore point that was created before you began to experience the issue, and then click next.
Click Finish.

The computer restarts, and the system files and settings are returned to the state that they were in at the time that the restore point was created.

Let us know if this resolved your issue.

Thank you

Can't upload pics to my desktop!!

Answer 3:Hi,

I suggest you try to manually install the driver for device.  Go to the Manufacturer's website and download driver, save to a location you can remember on your pc.  Then install from that location.

Meanwhile, I would like to suggest trying the following to narrow down the issue:
1.    Plug the camera to another computer and check if you can download the pictures.
2.    Try inserting in all the USB ports present in the system.
3. Here is an article which says a digital still camera is not recognized in Windows Vista or in Windows XP

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/927836

This problem may  occur if the camera uses the Microsoft Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) standard to transfer pictures to the computer. Windows Vista uses the Windows Portable Devices (WPD) standard instead of the WIA standard to import pictures and videos. The WPD standard supports many devices and device connectivity options.

To resolve this problem, configure the camera to use the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) standard instead of the WIA standard. For information about how to configure the camera to use the PTP standard, see the owner's manual for the camera. Or, visit the camera manufacturer's Web site.

4. Check if the storage device exits in Disk Management.

Note: Firstly, please perform a full backup of your storage card or device in the camera.

1)  Open Computer Management by right clicking the My computer, select Manage. In the Navigation pane, under Storage, click Disk Management.

2)  If the device exists, please see if a Driver Letter has been assigned. If not, please try to assign a drive letter to it, go to Computer and check if it will appear.

You can also try to uninstall and reinstall USB controllers.

1. Right-click Computer > Properties > Device Manager and look for
everything in the USB Devices or Universal Serial Bus Controllers category
then right-click and Delete them.

2. Restart the system normally and Windows will then re-install the USB
controllers. Plug in your USB device(s) and it/they should be recognized
properly.

If the issue is related to this particular USB device, it is recommended that you contact
Manufacturer of the device for technical support.

Regards,
Amritha- Microsoft Support.
