Answer 1:
Hi bew2k6,
Thank you for using Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.
Where did you download Vista from?
You need to run Upgrade advisor before installing Vista.
Click on the link below to run Upgrade advisor.

Let us install Vista in Clean boot mode which will help you in resolving the issue.
Follow the instructions in the link below to start the computer in Clean boot state.
1) Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
2) On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
3) Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
4) Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
5) Click OK.
6) When you are prompted, click Restart.
7) After the computer starts, start the download and check whether the problem is resolved.
If that does not work, uninstall the Antivirus security software installed on your computer and then proceed with the installation.
If the issue still persists, try to redownload Vista Operating system using Download manager of Digital Locker.
Please Post back and let us know if this has helped to resolve your issue.
Regards,
KarthiK TP
