Microphone not working; no matter what I do.

Question:Alright.  I'm on the verge of pulling my hair out. I bought a dell xps 420 about a year ago.  Back in february, my raid 0 crashed thanks to a dumb friend of mine.  I got a replacement and installed it.  I installed every disc needed and all.  Now I'm trying to use a headset, the speaker aspect works.  The microphone part does not.
I've tried everything I can think of.  I check the sound properties and such "no audio devices are installed".  I've updated drivers.  I've ran troubleshoots after troubleshoots.  I tried setting up that voice recognition program. It says the wizard can not run and I should make sure everything is plugged in right and such.  Yes, everything is plugged it.  I've tried both jacks in the back and front.  My headset is not usb.  Just the seperate jacks.  I've even gone so far as to open up the side and look to make sure nothing is loose. I've looked at similar questions on nearly twenty different forums and none helped.  I'm baffled.  Please help.

Answer 1:Hi,

Double check your Sound Driver version in Device Manager - Sound drivers often rollback so you might
actually have an older driver installed. Run the driver (RUN AS ADMIN) and REBOOT and check until the
latest driver version shows as installed on the driver's tab. Look at DELL and at the actual Device Maker's
sites for latest drivers.

After rechecking driver.

Right click Speaker near Clock - Recording Devices - right click in box - check Show Disconnected Devices
and Show Disabled Devices - check your mic - highlight them and then on lower right properties. Make
sure the proper one is enabled and check other settings - on Levels tab make sure MUTE is unchecked
and APPLY / OK changes.

Also in Control Panel look for some Audio Manager (maybe named after sound driver maker). Mine
is RealTek Audio Manager, yours can be entirely different name if you have one.
